Alison Keane and mindfulness

Here’s some words from Alison Keane’s website which I think explain beautifully why meditation and mindfulness matter.

Some stress is a natural and necessary part of being alive. But at times it takes over and all the lightness fun and joy normally a part of living a full life begins to slip away like sand falling through your hands.

I took a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course with Alison several years ago and it really sparked my interest in meditation and mindfulness.

Alison is a Brisbane psychotherapist, writer and mindfulness educator and if you are in Brisbane I can highly recommend her courses and classes.

If you haven’t come across it before, mindfulness based stress reduction is:

a psycho-educational course that uses mindfulness meditation to help people tap into their inner psychological resources to take better care of themselves.Developed by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn (UMASS Medical Center) in 1979, MBSR is a mix of mindfulness training, formal and informal meditation practice, mindful movement and gentle yoga, and small group reflection.

Alison has given us a guided meditation which we are using early on as it provides a gentle reminder to live in the present.
